What the 2026 citizenship test actually looks like
The Canadian citizenship test is a written exam administered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Applicants aged 18–54 must pass to become citizens. The test is based on Discover Canada, the official study guide.
Study in the language you think in.
The official test is in English or French, but we believe you should be able to learn the material in whichever language you're most comfortable with. Every question, explanation, and reference is fully translated.
Questions, answered
The test format remains the same in 2026: 20 questions, 45 minutes, 75% to pass (15 of 20 correct). Questions are still based on the Discover Canada study guide published by IRCC. Always check the official IRCC website for the latest updates.
Start with the official Discover Canada guide (free from IRCC), then reinforce your understanding with practice tests. Our 500+ questions cover every topic on the official exam, and each one links back to the exact section of Discover Canada it is drawn from.
The exam covers rights and responsibilities of citizenship, Canadian history from Indigenous peoples through to the present day, the three levels of government, Canadian law and justice, geography, the economy, and national symbols.
Yes. Most applicants now receive an email from IRCC with a link to take the test online. You will need a desktop or laptop (not a phone or tablet), a stable internet connection, and a quiet environment. Our mock tests are designed to match that experience.
You get a second attempt. If you fail twice, you will be called to an in-person interview with a citizenship officer. Practising with realistic mock tests — ideally the full 20-question timed version — significantly lowers the risk of failing.
Yes. Every mock test and topic quiz is free — no account and no credit card required. Premium (CAD 9.90 for 30 days) unlocks timed simulations, detailed explanations, and all nine languages in full.
